Akkie and crew have been excellent to work with! Being in the restoration trade, we often need to send roofing subtrades out with only a moments notice to inspect a variety of issues, and I'm so glad we came across Pacific. Inspections are scheduled very quickly, technicians are thorough, and the reporting is detailed and well put together. I had a leak in my roof due to a vent screw. I sent their office pictures and got a quote right away. Promptness and solid quoted amount made me go with them. The technician who attended was Jaspreet. He was amazing. It started snowing right before he got here, so we expected a reschedule. He arrived and went straight to work. Snow didn't bother him. He was very polite and explained the current issue. He also gave future recommendations for the rest of the vents. I am very pleased with Pacific Coast Roofing and will be calling them again for any future roof needs.

Dan was excellent. Call right away for a estimate and came the next day to give me a quote. He came quickly to do the work. Very cost effective. Great prices and he is a perfectionist and wants the work done properly. He went above and beyond what I expected. He did every little thing and then some for me. Highly recommend his company. Can damaged cedar shakes be repaired, or does the roof need replacing?
Individual shakes and shingles can be replaced, so a split, cracked or missing piece, or a leak at a flashing, valley or chimney, can often be repaired without re-roofing. New cedar starts out lighter than the rest of the roof and weathers to grey over time. If many shakes are cupped, split or soft, or the roof leaks in several places, replacement is usually the better investment, and we'll tell you honestly which your roof needs.
What upkeep does a cedar roof need in the Lower Mainland?
Cedar lasts best when it can dry out. Trim back overhanging branches, keep needles and debris out of the valleys and off the roof, clean the gutters in spring and fall, and never let a downspout empty onto a lower roof. Zinc or copper strips near the ridge help keep moss in check, and we offer roof maintenance and moss treatment if you'd rather we handle it. Check with us before applying any sealant or coating: treated cedar shouldn't get aftermarket treatments without the manufacturer's approval.
Can you replace a cedar roof with asphalt shingles or a cedar-look product?
Yes. We can replace an aging cedar roof with architectural asphalt shingles, or with a composite shake such as Enviroshake for a similar look. Older cedar roofs are often laid over spaced boards, so switching to shingles usually means a full tear-off and new solid sheathing, which we check during the assessment. The cost depends on the roof's size and pitch, the deck work needed and the product you choose, and we're happy to quote cedar and the alternative side by side.
What's involved in replacing a cedar shake roof?
Most cedar replacements begin by taking the old shakes off down to the deck, so the sheathing can be checked and repaired or replaced where needed. Next come new underlayment and flashings at walls, chimneys and valleys, then the new shakes or shingles with the spacing and fastening the manufacturer specifies, and finally ridge and ventilation details that let the roof dry out between storms.
